Have booked charter flights from Saturday to Saturday for 21 days at great prices.

Flying out Sunday could stop you taking advantage of these if they pop up.

We've just been told of a family wedding coming up this April. They casually mentioned it's on a Friday because it will save money.
We would both need to take the Friday off work, and be up early for work on the Saturday, so not really enjoy the evening reception, unless we both take the Saturday off too.
Definitely not going, just told them we will be away that week.

Go on holiday. To change all your plans for a distant relative you see so infrequently would be madness. I couldn't care less if I never saw my cousins again and I'm sure most feel the same.

I do think most people who book a wedding for a non Saturday know not everyone can make it . I was married on a Friday first time around and it was gratifying how many people did make the effort . I do think a weekday wedding tends to weed out the not really that bothered types which may not be a bad thing

erm nope, not me. I rarely see my cousins (there are 9 in total) as I moved away 15 years ago, but I still love them and love spending time with them when we can congregate in one place.

I like my cousins too... I had 24 of them (a few have died), a few live a fair distance away... but I see 4 of them on a regular basis and am in touch with several more on an ad hoc basis, I have lost my parents and only sister, I have only one aunt left (99) and my cousins are my links to my heritage... plus apart from one they are all good, honest and truly nice people...

I would try and fly out a day or 2 later if it was me, I only have a small family and rarely see my cousins but would want to be there if I could, often the only time we get to see everyone these days are at family occasions such as this because we all have such busy lives.

If the wedding is next Summer so nearly 18 months away then that is a standard timeframe to book venues etc these days, so I don’t expect it would be that easy for them to rearrange, however flights on the whole aren’t even released yet.

If however none of you really want to go then at least you have an excuse not to 😁
