Question Slow cooker butter chicken

So just read this recipe on allrecipes but it says to fry off chicken ,onion first then add other ingredients and stir add to slow cooker.
Would it work if I just bang it all in the slow cooker and not fry off?
What’s the point of frying I may as well of made it in the frying pan?
Never made curry in slow cooker before, what do you do that works?

The frying of the onions and the chicken can add a depth of flavour to the completed meal, I do it more with beef as it gives it a slight caramel taste.

If I'm in a rush then I just chuck everything in and let it go, doesn't make that much of a difference to be honest.

Curries can come out nice, I would brown the onions and fry any chillies first then add the spice ingredients, towards the end of the cooking I always fry some more spices in a bit of oil to release the flavours and then add that into the slow cooker.

You can do this, but you will lose all the flavour that the frying/browning would add. It would taste quite different.
Personally I would fry/brown the chicken and onion.

The frying helps to add and seal in flavour. We have a sear and stew slow cooker which means that we can use the slow cooker cooking pot on the hob and seal/fry everything in there before putting it back in to the slow cooker. Keeps all the flavour in the pot and saves getting another pan dirty

I make this and always fry it first , it is a really good recipe and if you think about it it is only an extra frying pan to wash up .
