Where to start - disabled and dementia

123TOPAZ - I am in exactly the same situation as you, we have been many times before however this time we are taking my parents, my dad also just 60 has Alzheimer's Disease.

My dad still has a good quality of life though and like you said he is so looking forward to the holiday. I spoke with my dads Consultant, Mental Health Nurse and a representative from Alzheimer's Scotland. All of whom told me that I was doing the right thing taking him on holiday and they described it similar to taking a child with Autism and to have a plan in place and let him know what is happening.

So I keep talking to him about what we will do, the things we will see and he loves watching Vlogs and You Tube videos with me. I have travel insurance in place and have contacted the Airline we are travelling with and also Loews RPR to advise of his condition.

I also asked for advice on The Dibb and whilst some told me not to do it, others said go for it. I know it will be our last family holiday and I want to make the memories with my dad. We wont do Orlando at the same pace as we have in the past but I think my dad will love it.

Thank you so much 2littleboys. I was starting to worry that maybe we were making the wrong decision but a few people that have had experience with dementia have helped to ease my mind.

The dementia is in the very early stages so I'm hoping that there won't be a massive change over the next 6 months and like you we'll probably take the holiday much slower than the previous times that we have visited.
