So carrying on with Bag 3:
Surprise! Surprise! Another load of windows: More trim goes on the end windows: Cross pieces go on to strengthen the structure: More strengthening arches go in: Guess what? More windows: On the back wall we install a significant black brick. This will carry the shaft for the winding mechanism ( I'll point it out now. It is not a full working clock which is a shame). Just to show you the intricacy of some of the structure. These fit either side of where the next large window will go: In situ: Within the clock tower we fit this block which carries some of the transmission cogs: The area that will transmit vertical movement to horizontal (all very technical !): More monarchs. More windows: more 45 degree angle placement of bricks: A look at the transmission cogs in the clock tower: The second storey fascia of the clock tower goes on: The winding shaft for the clock faces is constructed: and installed: More windows! The window cleaning bill for the actual building must be phenomenal ! Finally a blue disc is installed in the tower to guide the vertical shaft: 354 bricks 2 hours Running totals: 1679 bricks. 7 1/2 hours. Edited at 06:28 PM. |

Moving on to the bags marked 4 - a lot of intricate trim in this section:
A lot of these shield shapes are about to feature: Caps on the columns: Shield bricks get added: And more shields: And now upside down shield bricks: More pieces are added to the clock tower: I'm showing the instructions so you can see the construction of the window lintel: And in position: An edging layer on the clocktower: Trims are added to the perimeter: And finally for tonight - a few windows and the start of the roof: Bags 4 are not finished yet - maybe tomorrow. 317 pieces today. 2 hours. Totals to date: 1996 pieces 9 1/2 hours Edited at 08:52 PM. |

So continuing with Bag 4...
We start to fit some architectural embellishments: The end gets some detail: And we add some windows on the end turret: These become arched. The turret roof goes on: Then we fit more to the central part of the clock tower: The turret roof gets some gold embellishments: More is added to the clock tower: The next storey walls for the tower are constructed and put in place: The corners are constructed and these are added: A view of the model at its current stage: So this morning I used 397 pieces over 2 hours Running totals: 2375 pieces 11 1/2 hours |

Bag 5 -
This is quite an intricate part of the model - we are going to be adding two more storeys to the clock tower. We have to duplicate everything to create the two storeys so: And on... And on... And on: Eight sides have to be put together - 2 storeys x 4: These are then attached to the central support: Corner pieces finish off each storey: The tower is looking good: Believe it not but those two storeys took 638 pieces ! Another 2 hours. Running totals: 3013 pieces 13 1/2 hours Edited at 08:04 PM. |
