Well the lady came from DWP this morning to speak to my son and I. She was here no more than 20 minutes which was good as DS was quite anxious about it. Whilst I went upstairs to get some identification she asked DS for his name and address, which he is not very good at giving (address, not name ) and so when I came back I just had to confirm them. She asked him if he knew why she was there so he just said it was to help him with his autism and ADHD. She spoke to him about managing his own affairs and she came to the conclusion that it would be best if I managed his affairs for the time being so he agreed. After explaining my responsibilities as appointee I asked her about the changeover to PIP and she said that anytime between his 16th birthday (April) and his renewal date (sometime in 2019) for DLA we will get the form for PIP. Can't wait...not!
I then just signed a form and off she went so not as bad as we both thought.

Just dreading the next bit now as she said he would probably have to be interviewed after we have filled the form in and, shall we say,DS version of how he manages day to day is quite different to mine He likes to think he is quite independent but in reality he is far from it, compared to typical kids his age.
Oh well, we will cross that bridge when we come to it

Hi there, I am in a similar situation. My son was 16 last June and the day after his birthday we received the form to claim PIP.

We had an assessor visit our home to do the assessment and the lady was not very nice at all

My son is Autistic, he cant read or write, he does not go out the house (he has also been diagnosed with agoraphobia) He cant tell the time, what day or month it is ect.

The assessor kept talking to my son and got annoyed when he failed to respond! I would respond for him and she would just stare at me! He was then asked to stand up to do some movement tests but he would not get up, so she huffed sat back down. She asked him to remember 3 words, when she asked him to repeat them he just put his hands over his ears, she then said oh come on surely you can remember!I showed her the medication he is on for sleeping and anxiety and she said yes I have down already. When she left I felt deflated, I called the PIP helpline who assured me that the assessor can only report what is seen during the asessment, so I left it there.

Around 8weeks later we get the decision and he scored 0
points! The reasons on the letter are shocking! The assessor said my son communicated with ease and kept constant eye contact! My son does not even look at me when speaking! It said he performed well in all movement tests and he demonstrated being able to prepare and cook a meal! It said my son was on no medication and performed well in all tests! All complete lies! She also said my son goes out and about freely, My son had a Taxi provided by our local council throughout high school! There was so much more that she lied about I was in absolute disbelief.

I asked for a reconsideration that also came back with 0! So I have now appealed and am waiting for a tribunal hearing!

I wish they were made to record the assessments! As now its my word against hers.

Just thought I would share my experience so far, Sorry if it makes you worried thats not my intention, I think we were just very unlucky with our assessor

Hope all goes well for you and your son.

That is truly disgraceful. When our DS was changed from DLA to PIP this time last year I really believed that was it, end of his benefit however it's been nearly doubled, I supplied a copy of his official diagnosis and about eight sides of A4 paper documenting his every day life (on his worst days) and examples of things that had happened over the years. The lady who came to assess him was so young (turns out she was a newly trained nurse and only 23). She asked for him to answer her questions without my help but I could sit in. We were both happy with that but it did get to the point when I stepped into help explain more fully and to the point as he tends to use a dozen words when one will do I think we were very fortunate and I really feel for those who get a poor assessor, there are so many deserving people who seem to be being failed badly. We also had a chap come to see us when he turned 16 as I wanted to be his appointee and that was a very, very simple thing to sort out,
