Do you mind me asking? I’m on week five so know I won’t hear yet. But do the claims get sent to an individual DM then in their queue? As it’s really random that some people have sent their COC off after me (I’m on a FB group) and have already heard back for COC? I’ve sent all supporting evidence from hospital and in black and white my son meets the descriptors from thehandbook so in theory they don’t need to contact anyone? I don’t get it?

Claims are put in a general queue and are then distributed to individual case managers. Then it will be down to how many cases the individual CM has, their working pattern etc. You can always phone up progress chasing as sometimes this works to get things done quicker (although we are meant to seal with claims in date order for fairness).

Yep exactly what I thought! It’s definitely not done in date order at all. I’m on a Facebook group and some people hear back much quicker. And it seems new claims are taking a couple of weeks. I’ve sent everything possible so in theory there’s no need to contact anyone. It may be done in date order for the case manager that’s received it but there’s so many variables it doesn’t make sense! I’m not holding out much hope for him on the COC. Will do an MR then if need be tribunal which I know we would win so they can fork out some more wasted money then! What a waste of resources that will be. I think the problem is some people just give up and don’t fight these things.

Does the CoC form just give you chance to add in new information or is it a full application?

It didn’t have the ‘someone that knows your child section’ my son’s changes are about his mobility so I just ticked no change to care needs. However I’ve since been told I should of filled the whole thing in again. Depending what call handler you speak to they all tell you different information. The whole system is a joke to be honest and it’s not a one child fits all scenario. I received a letter today we are sorry it’s taking so long to look at your claim. God knows what will happen but I will be fighting tooth and nail so let’s just hope the person that looks at it knows what they are doing!

I really must get hold of them in new year, waiting for latest consultant letter to come. Shocking it takes so long. DDs changes dont really affect her care needs and probably not enough of a change on her mobility to make a difference, but i suppose i better let them know. Unfortunately the system isnt clever enough to know what conditions can change for the better and the ones you are just stuck with. DD condition is genetic and wont get better so unless major advances know how to change her DNA nothing will get better.

It depends on area and if your area has a backlog. I waited 16 weeks in London, but someone I know, in Shropshire waited 4 weeks. It really does just depend on the amount of cases the decision maker needs to get through before reaching yours.
