Been on the Ruby and on the Majestic sister ship (Royal). Both have got pros and cons but on balance my call would be the Majestic.
Is it an identical itinerary? If one was better than the other, that would clinch it.

Exactly which surprises me !

I have watched Jane McDonald on it recently and looks gorgeous but reviews say food on both not great? Majestic too many people?

Food on both not good? We were on the Caribbean Princess in November and the food was great. I read a review by someone on the same cruise as us and they slated the food. Made me wonder if we were on the same ship!
On the Royal Princess (and the Ruby for that matter) it never seems crowded, people seem to disappear! The only time it might be busy is trying to get a lounger by a pool on a sea day, though there are lots of sun decks. That may depend on your itinerary - where are you going?
