Mobile Pacific coast highway hotel recommendations

Planning a trip for March next year and starting to think about booking hotels. I’d be interested to hear your recommendations for our planned stops as personal recommendations are always better than faceless review sites...

So far our stops are:
Half Moon Bay (just a stop off after the flight and puts us in the right location to start the drive!)
Monterey (2 nights)
Pismo Beach (1 night)
Santa Barbara (1 night)
LA (1 night)
Anaheim (1 or 2 nights)
San Diego (3 or 4 nights)

We’re also staying 3 nights in Las Vegas but we’ve been before so we’re happy making a choice there.

Any ideas gratefully received

Monterey.. Monterey Bay Hotel. Right on the entrance to Cannery Row, comes with breakfast and the only noise to disturb you is the occassional honking of Sealions on the beach below.

Without a doubt, the Madonna Inn. Probably nothing like it in the whole world, iconic, visited by a whos who of celebrities and a few miles behind Pismo Beach at St Luis Obispo.
A true highlight of our recent vacation (as was the huge cake that we bought there). If we visit the West Coast again, it will be the very first accommodation that we book.

If Long Beach LA it comes into your planning, then the RMS Queen Mary is a great place to explore and to spend a night in a State Room. Tired oppulence.

Pictures of all 3 on my trip report, California N to South at Easter.

Thank you - that was definitely on my list after seeing it on TV a while ago! Which room did you have? Off to look at your TR now

We had the Chinese paper room. It was very big and with a division into two parts with beds in each. It really was a sight to behold!
It was the wifes birthday and there was a Black Forest Gateau type cake (huge) waiting in the room. It really is one of the strangest places that you will ever visit and the restaurant prices were surprisingly, very reasonable. Most hotels are the same.. This one most certainly is not!

Hope it helps.

Hi how many in your party, have you considered airbnb. We have used these on 2 trips now and find them great. With some the added bit of info on places to eat and some extra gems of info.
