You absolutely don't need a IDL to drive in Florida if you have a D/L in English.
The Post Office is a commercial organisation basically being economical with truth. Your post may attract a few replies from other Dibbers who hire at least twice a year in Florida Have a read of DFCH's FAQs here if you want further comfort discountfloridacarhire/faq.php and a bit more proof from Alamo themselves alamo/faqs/usa-can...north-america/ Mick

I would say what was encountered in the Post Office was an employee who is giving out the Company line as per their website - which is wrong.
I wouldn't blame him as that old expression comes to mind - don't shoot the messenger.

Hiya Paul, those travelling with an English written DL have never required an IDP, it was a gross error by Gov Scott (or his team). The Bill was rescinded within weeks by a red faced Gov Scott after the Canadians kicked off big time, closely followed by the Brits. Our Cze friends DL's are in English and Cze, they too have never bought an IDP... the UK post office will eventually (as the AA did) amend their incorrect stance on a totally superfluous IDP. The only benefit an IDP supposedly has; as a translator document into English.

Quite right too PPM. I struggle to understand most of what ChrisS says and she comes from about 50 miles north of my birthplace. There's a current thread about what language people want to learn.
