Disney skyline Gondola

Does anyone know if this will replace the old monorail system

No. Not at the moment anyway. This goes to Epcot and DHS, nowhere near MK. Who knows if Disney plan to switch. I hope not.

It’s a totally different system in a different area.
Disney are having new monorail trains built, via Bombardier.
If Skyline is extended if it is a success (likely will be), then expect to see it going down to Animal Kingdom and possibly (albeit this one may be a different transport system such as an autonomous small railway) going to Saratoga Springs and/ or Disney Springs.

How exciting it’s only been 16 months since my last visit and now they are testing it out 👏🏻

I see at as being intended to complement the existing transportation systems and reduce the massive costs of running a bus network larger than some cities. If anything it will just be extended to include other resorts and parks.

Its very quick to implement and extend which is one of the reasons it was likely selected due to the expected crowd increase later this year and for the 50th. If successful, it will also massively reduces the carbon footprint of the existing system.

Watched a construction update on You Tube from Passport to the Parks yesterday. Construction seems to be well advanced. All sections now have the hauling cables attached and the gondolas are starting to arrive. The stations at Pop Century, HS and Epcot and Riviera seem quite well advanced. The one at CBR has a little way to go yet, but that is the main hub and is much larger. They seem to think it may well be completed late Summer, though they also say it could be earlier than that. They also say that they are expecting some testing imminently, maybe even next month. Disney's official opening word is just Fall.

Quick update: One of the Disney blogs on FB posted this today showing that testing has started. Pic of one of the Gondolas running along the line between CBR and HS

There’s still massive amounts of work to be done on the stations

Latest Tim Tracker video at Epcot shows a few seconds of the terminal there. It’s looking well advanced already. Impressive for Disney.
