One has to speak as one finds in ones own situation & yes Spain does have bull fighting which in my opinion is disgusting but even worse is their Goat Throwing Fiesta in January!
But this is diverting what is an interesting thread on learning another language!

We moved to NW wales 5 years ago and I’ve been learning Cymraeg for 3 years, I do a 2 hour class once a week it’s really difficult to learn, not helped by the fact that I never did any other languages at school, however it’s definitely keeping my brain active and whilst I can’t carry a conversation I’m quite good at reading it, but the welsh speakers here speak so quickly I can’t catch it and don’t start me on the mutations!

I congratulate you, I am Welsh but really struggle to learn the language. I speak with a strong Welsh accent but my pronunciation of Welsh words is terrible. I used to try to help my children revise for their GCSE in Welsh and they told me to give up as they had no idea of what I was trying to say 😀

Thank you, I seem to know lots of words but struggle to put them into a sentence, it’s the little ‘glue’ words and knowing the order of them as mostly it’s opposite to English!

I learnt a fair amount of Spanish recently, but I’m rubbish at pronouncing things correctly in English, let alone Spanish so it was a bit pointless

I’ve just started learning Spanish through Duolingo as we bought a villa in Kissimmee 18 months ago and thinking it might come in handy sometime. A lot of the workers over there e.g. pool guys and gardeners employed by our HOA don’t speak a word of English though Google translate on a phone is actually a very effective way of communicating with them according to my wife who deals with all that side of things. There was only one version of Spanish available on Duolingo so presumably the differences in how they speak it in Spain and America aren’t so great.

At the age of 8 I was fluent in Spanish as our family lived in Mexico for a couple of years around 1970 so I’m hoping that might help in some way.

I would like to learn Spanish, I've had a play with Duolingo, but after a week get distracted by something else.
