Passport or ID card?
Do I need a passport to travel to France (DLP) or ID card will do?

I believe you'll need a passport valid at least until the end of your trip.

I thought that travelling to European Union can be done with ID card these days. |

Nope.
We didnt sign up to the "Schengen" Agreement, so you still need a valid passport to get into France and, more importantly, to get back into the UK!
