Does Magic Express need booking?

I have been on site quite a number of times and have always booked the Magic Express myself. DD and hubby are going alone for the first time in a few weeks. She is adamant that they do not need to book the ME as their holiday is booked through WDWTC and it says they have the ME on their booking and that Disney will theefore know their flight times etc. I still think they need to book the ME themselves on line though. Can anyone clarify?

Yes, we always book through WDWTC and still needed to book it last year, even though it is free to resort guests.

to clarify, you're not required to (as in "if you don't book they'll refuse to transport you") because if you have a disney hotel booking, they'll transport you

but you should book DME because this allows disney to better schedule buses, and this limits wait times for guests, which we all want to happen

The assumption according to which, since you booked flights as part of your package Disney will automatically know when you're coming, is FALSE

It's not because you have a flight coming into MCO, and a hotel booking that you'll automatically use DME
some people do rent cars, or private transports

so having a flight booked doesn't book you on DME
you have to tell disney that you'll use their free shuttle. If you don't Disney assumes you have arranged your own transportation.

They specifically have a bit you fill in when making a hotel reservation on the Disney site for DME so you can tell them which flight you arrive on.

Thanks, I did advise her to specifically book but I will check whether she filled in the details on her booking. It is the first time they have booked themselves as I usually do it but this time they are going without us.
