Time between visits

We are booked to go to Florida 20th july-4th Aug then going back 6th-15th Oct to L.A., never thought about it before now but as our 90 days from first admission will still be valid on 2nd admission do we need to do anything different, never been this close together before

Your 90 days probably lapsed as you left the USA. So this would be a fresh entry.

I understood the esta to be valid for 90 days. You are going for 14 + 9, which is far short of 90.

I know it's not exactly what you asked but "how often between trips on an ESTA?" is addressed here on the official site.

Approved ESTA applications are valid for a period of two years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first, and multiple trips to the United States without the traveler having to re-apply for another ESTA. When traveling to the U.S. with the approved ESTA, you may only stay for up to 90 days at a time - and there should be a reasonable amount of time between visits so that the CBP Officer does not think you are trying to live here. There is no set requirement for how long you must wait between visits.

Seems to be up to the US CB&P officer to decide.

Mick

The key words in Mick's quote from the official site is:
"you may only stay for up to 90 days at a time"
You start counting again at the start of each visit and both your visits are less than 90 days in length. It is irrelevant whether your second visit is within 90 days of the first.

Which is true of every entry into the US , whether it's a first or one of many.

Exactly which is why I was only answering the specific question in the title of the thread. Are there any defined number of days between visits and the answer is no.

Mick
