Mobile What to do at weekends?

We are going to be in Orlando for 5 weeks in the summer, and having two boys with autism are planning to avoid the parks at the weekends as they are so much busier!
I've cooked discovey cove for one Saturday, but would love some other ideas for what to fill out week ends with?
I've heard malls are also very busy at weekends?

Thanks

Head out early to the beach?

AMI is under a 2hr drive and a lovely place to spend the day. You could always book an overnight/long weekend?

Would agree that a tip to the Coast is a must.
Agree with above post re AMI, but consider Fort Desoto for some interesting history and beautiful empty beaches.

All these are dependant on being suitable. My youngest has dyspraxia and they suit him. If you didn't know already, make sure to pick up a DAS from guest services (or universal equivalent).

KSC and a day at Cocoa beach. I would book a room and stay there to save driving.

Airboat tour.

Fun spot

5 weeks! I'm so green with envy right now. You lucky things.

I'm not sure what works or doesn't for your boys but outside the parks i've looked at Kennedy Space Centre, a day at the beach, an airboat tour, dolphin watching boat trip and gatorland. I can't think of anything else right now other than a day at "home" in the pool x

State parks, you can cook your own pancakes in a restaurant in one of them. Rent a boat. Tubing in one of the rivers - a quick google would find it.
I got a great book called "Day trips from Orlando" for my parents when they were all theme parked out. Might be worth a look.

Thank you all very much, some excellent ideas there! I had scheduled KSC for midweek so will change that to a weekend if It's not too busy
Beach day and state parks look like great options too!

Thanks again
