Dollar vs Alamo

Hi,

Debating hiring a car for our trip in May, having previously decided we didn't need one. Would need a 7 seat minivan, and from a quick look on DFCH Dollar are coming out almost half the price of Alamo for our dates. I've only ever used Alamo and have heard bad things about Dollar in the past, but not for a while admittedly. Are they still best avoided, or have things got better? Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has recent experience of using them.

I haven't used them since the bad old days many years ago when they were best avoided.

However they have turned around and are on the up in customer reviews. The sting in the tail is their toll costs ref their admin fees. Ouch!

Would I use them. One word yes.

I am ever more disappointed with Alamo and I rent 3 or 4 times a year from Orlando.

For my dates Alamo is the cheapest and to me the £ rules.

Check out the multitude of suppliers though before jumping in. Avis and Hertz are fine as well.

We used Dollar last year. They were fine with one exception... look out for them adding the toll charges to your bill. They tried this with our group bill without letting us know.

Once we went and spoke to the Dollar customer service desk, they were happy to remove.

We have booked up to go to Florida again next year and would use them again. I am waiting to see who is the cheapest :-)
