This is a strage question when ever we book vegs or Florida we try to book a 2 seat seat window oand isle . A lot of Flights are 3 seater I was thinking just to book one seat say no luggage maybe in a frends or reltiitve name wioth there permisson then just say the person could not make the flight at check in . My partner has learn diffcutys and Minor metel helth so I now it be quite a lot but it put her mind at ease when we fly,

When the person does not show at check in the seat will be available for anyone to sit there, or book that ticket as it will be offered for sale or to someone who was maybe overbooked so no that would not guarantee you an empty seat.

There is always a chance that if there is a no show the airline will allocate that seat as a standby.

I believe virgin offer the option to book an extra seat for space.
I’d also look at the rows of seats with only 2 in them.

Can they do this if the op has paid for the seat? Surely if they don't get a refund the seat is still theirs?

Fly Aer Lingus. Their windows seats are all 2 seaters in economy, seating is 2 window 4 in the middle and 2 window, or business is either 2 seats together or a single seat

Yes they can and do do it . You bum on the seat makes it yours . They would get a refund of the tax payed (minus a hefty admin fee) but no more unless it was a fully flexible fare AND you let the airline know you were not flying.

VS used to let you book a spare next to you but, I believe , that is no longer the case now they have 2 types of economy seats

Instead of paying for an extra seat would it work out cheaper to try premium economy on Virgin or WT+ on BA as the seats on the left and right sides ( not the middle of the seat plan) are twos?

Virgin stopped this a year or so again when they switched to the delta booking system
