I did a trippy from our visit in 2018. We had 5 nights in NY before flying down to Florida. The link is in my signature. It was in the summer though not winter, that’s on my bucket list to see the Christmas tree outside the Rockerfeller. I agree with PP that Top of the Rock is better than the ESB but if you can do both then even better

Do Top of the Rock during the day, great views of Central Park. And ESB at night for all the lights in every direction. 😊

Any tips appreciated regarding what to do, tickets to buy etc - I am clueless! We will (all being well) be going 23rd to 28th December. Now I’m off to watch home alone!
If you get chance, I’d highly recommend seeing The Rockettes show at Radio City music hall. We went last December and it made me feel the most Christmassy I’ve felt since I was a child

If you really want to cram in as many sights/attractions as possible then check out the New York Pass, for a set price you can go to as many attractions as you can fit in from their list.
We had a 3 day pass, it came with a hop on hop off bus pass too, and we did 10-11 attractions, which would have been way more money bought individually.

But there are so many different pass options, you just need to check them all out and find one that suits your itinerary

I have been looking at this! Can I ask where you got your tickets from and if there’s certain seating you’d recommend please?

New York is fabulous at Christmas especially if it snows
I would say get up early to beat the crowds for tourist spots , tour groups tend to get there later
I like broadway to stay but our hotel ( the Belleclaire) was too small So I won’t recommend that
The next time we stayed out in jersey city at the Westin which was a gorgeous hotel but maybe too far out for some , but we loved the area
Air BNB are illegal for short stays in NY The landlord has to be on site if it’s less than 30 days and it’s a legal minefield so avoid at all costs as it might not be there when you arrive !

That looks quite reasonable... especially as they do not charge a resort fee. I'm having a cheeky price up.
