Jumping in here. So I'm thinking of flying into Toyko and going to Kyoto and Osaka and its been suggested to go to Hiroshima on the way - not 100% sure yet. Is this a good plan? Is it best to get the rail pass? Of course this could all change!

Thank you

Martha, It might be more logistical to stop off at Kyoto then Osaka on the way from Tokyo to Hiroshima (otherwise its a 5+ hours train journey in one go). Kyoto (which is less than an hour away from Osaks) is about half way along the trainline from Tokyo to Hiromisha. Whether you want to depends on your free time. General rule of thumb is that a 7 day pass pays for itself with 2x bullet train journies, obviously your mileage may vary. It is worth it for us to get a 7 day pass for a train tokyo (start)->kyoto->osaka->tokyo (end) plus use a pasmo card for tokyo only.
