Naples and the surrounding area is lovely. You can get to Everglades City for some kayaking or a boat trip out to Ten Thousand Islands, do some great wildlife spotting and so much else to do. Great shopping and restaurants as well

We are staying in a 2 bedroom bungalow on the Glades Golf Course complex.
We're doing 12 nights in Naples in the summer and can't wait. We also have 4 nights in Sarasota too. We've stayed in Naples last summer for 3 nights and loved it, stayed at the Inn on Fifth. This year we have a villa on the Lely estate booked, between Naples and Marco Island. The villa looks amazing. There's golf, tennis and a lovely pool on site, I think it's a members club of some kind. We have booked 4 nights at the Ritz Carlton. The hotel looks lovely and has a nice pool but they have a beach club nearby and they run a shuttle bus between the two and it stops at Armand circle so we won't have to drive if we don't want to.

I loved the shops and restaurants in Naples. We also went to watch Probull at the now called Hertz arena. We plan to hire a boat this year and explore some of the little islands and beaches.

Wow, thanks everyone for all your fab feedback.

I really do have plenty of food for thought...

One thing I should have perhaps mentioned is that we do like a laid back holiday ie not having to get dressed up, going out for our evening meal in casual clothes, shorts, jeans, pumps etc...

I’m wondering if this would be ‘appropriate’ in some of the locations that have been suggested?

Florida is a wonderful state, definitely drive around and enjoy it.
General rule I’ve heard and found to be true is Gulf Coast gets nicer the further South you go. Love Naples in particular.
Love St Augustine, first time there last year.
Love panhandle, around the 30A, Seaside etc, San Destin, beautiful up there ( thus slightly against my first point).
Head out of Florida you have some nice islands in Georgia, and South Carolina such as Hilton Head and cities like Savannah and Charleston.
All wonderful, get out there and explore!

Lely is fabulous, I’ve stayed there many times. The Players Club is wonderful, very high end with lovely freeform pools. You will love it. See pic:
