Delta/Virgin Manchester

Dear Dibbers...

Apologies if this is a thick question but im looking at booking for Oct 2019. I've seen a flight on Expedia with Delta which is cheaper than the virgin flight. The Delta flight says operated by virgin, so this is basically the same flight? ! Its the same flight times etc!
Is there a risk booking it as a delta flight rather than the more expensive virgin option...?

It is probably the same flight on a code share.

We booked the same thru Opodo ( never again, different story ) and the main thing for me is the check in luggage is according to Delta rules , ie max size 157 cm whereas Virgin's check in is 208 cm both 23 kg. On the other hand carry on is according to Virgin rules , max 10kg .

Have you checked the Delta site to see if they are the same price there ? Alway advocate booking direct with airline if possible , especially after the hassle with Opodo !
Please make sure luggage is included with your flight prices.

If it says Delta operated by Virgin, you will be on the Virgin flight. A lot of (particularly long haul) flights operate on codeshares, it's pretty common to have 3 or 4 flight numbers attached to a single flight. If you watch departure boards, you'll see the flight numbers rotate through all the codeshares. For example, the same BA flight can be sold by BA, Iberia, American, etc.

Anyway... if all of the flight terms (baggage, etc) are the same, the price difference may just be down to Virgin having already sold through the cheaper fare bucket that Delta still has some allocation of. I would have no concerns booking through Delta, they are the largest stakeholder of Virgin (own 49%) and use the same booking system so it's practically the same company.

We got a good deal with a Delta Premium Economy price the year before last, I new it was a codeshare with Virgin (Stated it also), was a little hesitant. But it worked out fine, as everyone has said it was the Virgin Flight, all rules on baggage sizes/weights were to Virgin standard... hoping to find a similar thing for this year
