Popped into my local TA today, just for flights. They have said if I see anything online that they will at least price match if not come in a little bit lower.

Yes, a couple of years ago, we priced up deal with BA which was considerably cheaper than pricing with Virgin. I took a print out of the BA deal took it into Virgin, they beat the deal!

Last week we were looking at a ski trip for next Jan.
We ALWAYS do our research and price up what we want on line - checking dates/hotels etc so we know what we want when we go in. Usually we book with my friend but I know she cant give us ANY discount on this particular company. We popped into one of our local Thomas Cooks and it was clear the girl knew nothing about booking ski holiday She got us the same as the on line price then called a manager in the other local branch to see if they would give a discount. Offered £100 but DH didnt like the woman so off we went. . We headed down to the other shop where we knew the manager was, we were upfront about having been to the other store and said if they could do the right price we'd book it. £200 off later we were booked! Now £200 might not seem much on a £3K holiday but you usually get nothing off a ski trip so we were very happy! On another note we asked our local VH shop to price match a TCD fly drive - about £100 in it - nope! So I guess it just depends if you get lucky on the day! |

We have done this with DIY as well as comparison with VH. A couple of times we have priced it up DIY and I have got TA to beat that so then low deposit and ATOL covered and TA problem if anything goes wrong. Always pays to try!
