Mobile How long on passport?

Do you need 6 months on your passport for a short cruise from Cape Canaveral whilst in USA?

According to the USA embassy’s website your passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in the USA. Under a special waiver programme they do not require 6 months left on you passport from departure.

Be aware that cruise lines can impose their own passport validity rules regardless of the rules of the country you are departing from. They do this as a catch all to ensure that everyone is authorised to travel and covers the immigration requirements of the countries the ship is visiting.
For example on our next Caribbean cruise departing Fort Lauderdale the Princess Passage Contract states ‘A full British Citizen passport is required for all holidays and your passport must have at least 6 months validity after your date of return, as most countries require this.’ It also states ‘If you do not have the correct documentation, you will not be permitted to travel.’
Personally, I wouldn’t take the risk of not being allowed to board for the sake of renewing my passport a few months early. Check with your cruise line and get it in writing.

This is what I thought. We have a few years left on ours so okay, but asking for someone else.

We've been on cruises with three different companies and, as you say, all their Ts & Cs say that you need 6 month's grace on your passport. This is probably just a "catch all" condition to cover all eventualities.

As we all know you don't need it to visit the USA with a P/P from about 130 nations but someone catching a cruise without such a P/P might be in trouble. Similarly I believe you do need 6 months grace on a UK P/P visiting Malaysia for instance.

Personally if the cruise company say that it's a condition of travel I wouldn't risk it even though most short cruises from Florida only get to the Bahamas which is part of the British Commonwealth
