Could a dog recognise its siblings?
We had a lovely afternoon today. We took our one year old puppy to meet up with 5 of her 7 siblings at a nearby enclosed field. It was arranged as they were 1yr old on Thursday. All are rescues who came from Spain in May and adopted out in June. They haven’t seen each other since. We were amazed at how well they played and got on. They looked genuinely excited to see each other. My puppy has issues with socialisation and I was really worried about going (to the point where I nearly cancelled). I needn’t have worried, she was really good. It got me wondering... is it possible that they recognised each other? Any thoughts?

I think no, but I could be totally wrong. All
I would say is that my 9 month old pup absolutely adores other Labrador’s, he seems to recognise other crackers kindred spirits

It could be smell, I hadn’t thought of that. At puppy class this morning she was a nightmare, she just doesn’t stop barking at other dogs. We couldn’t believe that she didn’t bark once this afternoon.

We took our dog to puppy training classes, having been separated from his brothers and sisters for approx 8 weeks, and his brother was also at the class. They were best pals! And actually used to disrupt the whole class! 🙈We spoke to the trainer and she said that they would know that they were related, she said it was to do with pack status in the litter!

Of course they did. You'd know your own sibling wouldn't you?

Our lab was not impressed when one of her adult pups came to visit!

I’m not sure I would if I was adopted as a baby and met a sibling years later. 8 months in a puppy’s life is the same as years in a human’s.

Not if I was parted as a non toilet trained baby no. I got my puppy at 7 weeks old (admittedly early as too many pups and had to be weaned early) he was a tiny dot.
