Mobile Magic bands

What do you all recommend when buying magic bands? Are they easy to set up?

They are very easy to setup. You use the My Disney Experience app to link the band to your ticket. There’s a 12 digit code on the back of the magic band that you copy over

Took me less than 5 minutes to do 3

Where did you buy your bands from... it looks like you have to get them in the US?

We got them from the Emporium at MK but you can get them from the Disney shop in Orlando airport

They are sold at every resort store and World of Disney at Disney Springs and loads of other places

Also if you don't care what design you get, the Disney outlets (there's two in Orlando) often have older designs for a few dollars each.

But if there's at least four of you, look into "throwaway" bookings as booking one night at the campsite or a value resort can work out cheaper than purchasing magic bands (provided free with all onsite stays regardless of length) plus two days free parking at the parks for resort guests. You'd get access to EMH on those two days as well, plus be able to book FPs at 60 days.

The CMs can help you link the bands when you purchase them, but it is just inputting the code into MDE as mentioned above. Very simple.

please note that the battery included in the bands is rated for a 2yr lifespan

older designs and leftover stocks sold at the outlets might have a battery that has already died out

this will not be an issue for the contact reading (entering parks, redeeming fastpasses) but a "dead" magic band will not allow you to get your onride photos automatically added to your account ( assuming you have an ultimate ticket with memory maker included)

and even though for many rides you will be able to tap your band under your photo, for some rides, like 7DMT of frozen there will be no option for getting the pictures (no "long range" MB, no picture and no video)

so please factor that in when making the decision of buying a MB you have no way of knowing if it's live or dead as far as long range operations go.

We went to both outlets twice over the course of 2 weeks and there was no magic bands. The staff said they rarely get them anymore, as people will happily pay full price for them

The stock at the outlets tends to be seasonal bands. I think they have Halloween/Christmas themed ones in at the moment, or did in the last outlet update video I saw. Definitely under two years old as they're all 2018 dated, just not designs they can keep selling in the parks.

But still a valid point on older bands.

We picked ours up in the airport just after we landed - I wanted to know they were all set up for our first day before arriving at MK. They were really easy to set up. We visited outlets a few times and didn’t see any bands in there during our visit so I wouldn’t try this option myself. We got the basic colour ones and they were around fifteen dollars each.
