Surprise party dilemma
It’s my 50th birthday in a few weeks. I know something is being organized and I’m totally okay with it but...
Just over a week ago my head rang down to the nursery in school where I work for some info about a child, I answered the phone saying it was me that answered to which she replied ‘Oh Cathy, about your invitation” to which I replied ‘Invitation? No, not me.” She then answered “oh sorry wrong person.” I have a feeling that I’m being thrown a surprise party. My dilemma is, do I stay quiet and say nothing or do I let husband and children know what my boss said?

Say nothing, I found out about my 21st by accident and just went along with it. I think it just ruins it for the people throwing the party.

No I would keep quiet I think. Maybe head did have wrong person, otherwise she would surely have said “you know, the invitation to your party”.

Say nothing. act surprised.
I was thrown a surprise party when I was about 9. We used to live in the US and when we went back to visit my schoolfriends and their families threw me a surprise party (was it my birthday? or just a welcome back party? I can't remember). Anyway, my mum told me about it before, as she told me to "act surprised"! Why she did this I'll never know, I'm sure I'll never be thrown a surprise party again and it totally ruined the actual surprise. |

Personally I don’t like surprises so I’d be secretly thrilled I knew beforehand - I wouldn’t tell anyone anyone I knew though as they
a) might be upset their secrets out & b) I’d carry on & let them ‘surprise’ me if that’s what they planned I might tell them afterwards thou about how I found out - if you’re right, bit silly of that woman to blurt it out like that, she must’ve known it was a ‘surprise’ when she was invited ! have a great time celebrating thou ! 👍 Edited at 10:10 AM. |

Would it be a bigger surprise not to have a surprise party? Don't get yourself too 'built up' as it might not be what you are expecting. I have been there and done that on a smaller scale (I wasn't expecting a party lol) but I was left disappointed

When my mother was living in Spain it was her 70th birthday. She told all her friends she didn’t want a fuss and not to bother about her. Shen then expected a surprise party and was really put out when they didn’t do anything special for her.

say nothing. A friend organised a surprise trip for my 40th, we share a hairdresser and she spilled the beans while i was having my hair done. There friend organising then set up a series of clues for me to guess the week before and i played along pretending not to get it. Even on the car journey i pretended i didn't know where we were going She still doesn't know i knew!
