San diego/Santa Monica advice needed

After Anaheim we are driving to San Diego. Was wondering if to have 2 nights there and 2 around Santa Monica or 3 days in San Diego and 1 night Santa Monica before our flight home from lax.
Thanks

Definitely 3 in San Diego and one in Santa Monica.

There is an awful lot to do in San Diego and Santa Monica is a Beach.. with a pier.

Strangely, this is sort of how we concluded our recent vacation. We stayed our last night on RMS Queen Mary at Long Beach, having driven up from San Diego and then moved to Santa Monica in the morning, parking on the beach next to the pier and then doing a guided tour of Hollywood etc from that location before flying home in the evening.

Might be worth viewing my trip report ‘ California N to South at Easter’ .

You could do 2 nights in San Diego. You can do Old Town, Gas Lamp and Midway in 1 day, 2nd day depends on how much you want to do in Balboa park, visiting the zoo and if you want to do the Safari park or go to Sea World. If you did want shopping, the Westfield mall at the border has some good deals.

We have done 3 nights (last night tonight), 2 would have done us as we have chilled here, only here another day as we are going to Sea World and didn't want to do it on a weekend

3 nights San Diego and 1 night Redondo Beach. Unless you have a pre teen child who you want to take to the funfair on the Santa Monica pier.

Thank you. There is just me and hubby. Will be going to Sea World on 1 day (not on a weekend ) and wanted to do Old town ,Midway, maybe shopping. Was looking to have some downtime too, relaxing by a pool. Was thinking of Marina Del Rey on the very last night as we can drop the car off that we are hiring from Anaheim. Uber it to lax the next day before long flight home. Our flight at the moment is 4.30pm so that limits us on the day we fly home.

USS Midway a good 4 hours looking around and visit the "Kansas City Barbeque is a restaurant and bar located in the harbor district of San Diego, California. Self-proclaimed as the "Top Gun Bar" from the movie for lunch
The sky bar in the marriot is a good place to view the padres baseball ground or match if one is on
