Disney cruise cancellation?
My balance for a Disney cruise is due in a month. I can’t think for one second that it will be going and we won’t be going regardless.
My mother-in-law has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and i can get a refund through my insurance but I’d rather not go down that route. Has anyone had their cruise cancelled and how far out was it? We are due to go mid October. |

So some cruises have been cancelled for October yes but not the Caribbean ones. I think if you haven't paid the balance yet you can cancel and get a full refund anyway can't you with DCL or do you have a package through a travel agent? My WBTA for the 2nd October was cancelled the week before last. They have only cancelled the Caribbean cruises up until July however so the chance of October cancellations coming through in the next month for those I would think is unlikely as 1. they may well sail and 2. they would want to spread the cancellations so phone lines are completely rammed so would do month by month I feel rather than just a block of 3 months.
As said if booked directly you can get the deposit back before paid in full if you cancel. If however a package you'd have to check with TA.

Yes I had my September 2020 European cruise cancelled.
The Paid In Full date was June 14 and the cruise was cancelled on June 8 , 96 days before departure. I made the decision to Pay In Full back in May. At that stage it was 50 / 50 whether the cruise would go ahead, as The Magic has sailed transatlantic with no passengers and is docked in Dover England. My reasoning behind Paying In Full early If the ship sailed I would be on it, and I had the money in May to pay the balance. OR If the cruise ended up being cancelled I would secure the Future Cruise Credit. My cruise was eventually cancelled. As I was Paid I Full, Disney put 125% Future Cruise Credit on my Disney Cruise Account. I contacted my travel agent and she sorted everything for me. I am now rebooked on a longer more expensive European cruise for September 2021. My travel agent even managed to get the same stateroom for the 2021 cruise. Paying In Full is a gamble you should only take if you are 100% comfortable going on your 2020 cruise. You need to be 100% ok with and accept all the changes and restrictions and limitations that will happen when the sailings restart. You need to have an open mind and embrace the new Disney Cruising experience. If this is not you, if having xyz cancelled or changed will ruin your Disney Cruise experience, than cancelling before Paid In Full is the better option for you. If you cancel before Paid In Full you need to check the info below in the next post to see Disney's Cancellation fees, as it depends on how many days before departure and what type of cruise / stateroom you have, for the amount of money you will get back. If you cancel after Paid In Full you will loose a % of the money, depending how near departure you cancel. Edited at 07:57 AM. |

yeah my understanding was the same as steve30 that you can currently get your deposit back if you cancel before paid in full date as said above. Normal T&Cs might restrict this but currently they are allowing it.
