Weekend break in Europe for dds 18th!

Can anyone recommend me somewhere? Possibly Germany, not Rome or Paris, we’ve done Rome and if we went to Paris we’d have to include Disney which is too expensive for now. Somewhere with nice food, lots of lovely places to explore. Want to get Easy Jet Flights and a hotel and use public transport or walk. She wanted to go to Punta Cana which isn’t happening because we going to Toronto in September for ds wedding. She said ok can we just go somewhere! We haven’t been to Germany but are open to suggestions. Thanks

DH and I went to Berlin for his 50th. Cheap easyjet flight, train straight from airport to city centre.
Lots of eating/drinking/shopping places - we had a great time!

Amsterdam is usually cheap to get to and it’s a beautiful city. Lots to see and very walkable.

I used to live in Munich, Germany and loved it. Much nicer architecture than Berlin, city centre is walkable, metro train from the airport to the city centre, lots of shops and restaurants in the city centre.

City Centre Things to Do
  1. English walking tour
  2. Marienplatz and the Neues Rathaus and The Glockenspiel
  3. Frauenkirche
  4. Viktualienmarkt

Away from the city centre but accessible by public transport are
  1. Bavarian Film Studios where the Gene Wilder Willie Wonka film and The Neverending Story were made
  2. Nymphenburg Palace
  3. BMW Museum
  4. Olympic Park
  5. Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site

Split in Croatia is lovely & it’s only just over a 2 hr flight.
Lovely restaurants with some delicious food & cocktails.
A very walkable destination, with good local buses to other areas & a bus directly from the airport.

I used to live in Vienna in my early 20s and loved it. There is so much to see and do. Lots of things are walkable in the centre of the city (the 1st district) which is encircled by a street called The Ring. The 3rd and 5th districts just bordering the Ring are also good for museums, shopping, etc, and hotels can be cheaper here than in the centre. Public transport is excellent (underground and trams) and runs from airport. Good selection of Easyjet, Austrian and BA flights. I think Ryanair also flies to Bratislava which might be a cheaper option but might not be worth the hassle.

If you're planning on travelling soon, the Xmas markets are amazing! In spring/summer, the gelaterias and pavement cafes are great too.

We used to live in Germany. Munich is great and we also loved Bavaria. Even better if it’s around the time of the Christmas markets

oh yes, I loved the Christmas Market too and I loved the outdoor skating rink at the back of Marienplatz with the food and drink stalls.

Octoberfest is a mad time, it starts the last week of September, amazing fun but hotels book out fast.
