Tbh I thought the free case was awful quality.
My son built one in April and before we left the park the case was bobbling really badly. By the end of the day there is a bulge at the bottom where the blade is clearly pushing against. I wasn’t convinced it would hold up so we bought the other case and I’d 100% recommend this. For another $50 I felt it was more secure. We ended up buying the Ashoka Tano(?) sabers too and the smaller 26” blade. We packed the small blade in the savii bag, folded the top over and put it diagonally in our large case with the hilts in our cabin bag. No issue getting it back. We carried the full size savii lightsaber on the flight, due to many many issues with the BA flight we had to home alone it through the airport and didn’t have time to take that saber apart but no one questioned us at all. DS propped it between his seat and the window for the whole flight, same again on our connection back to Glasgow. Heathrow security made us take it out and turn it on etc, they said they hadn’t seen one before which I found hard to believe! |

The confusion comes about because the Savi’s blade is stated as being 31” but also has 3” of hilt connector. So it’s called 31” but is actually 34”!
You can also buy 26” (29” in reality) or 36” (39”) blades from Dok Ondar’s to go with the legacy saber hilts. Edited at 10:13 AM. |

So done it today. It was very good. A bit cheesy but the guy was very good. Here are some pictures of the carry case. It has foam inside where the blade goes to protect it. It’s certainly not going to fit in my case so will just need to be a carry on. My case size is 80cmx55cmx33cm. I tried diagonally but was about 3 inch too long. I have a hard case. That was just the blade not even in the carry case.

We brought ours home in an extendable hard plastic art tube, it was about £10 from hobbycraft. Placed it in the suitcase to fly out, and on return carried it on. After paying so much for it we wanted to protect it.

I took the blade as carry on flying back with AA and removed the hilt and packed it in checked luggage to make it a bit more flexible for putting in the overhead bins.
