Do I need ‘special’ cruise insurance?

We’re doing a trip to Florida which includes a 3 day cruise. We have the Barclays travel pack which is more than adequate insurance for us travelling normally.

However I’ve been told conflicted things about needing special cruise insurance and other people have said normal travel insurance is fine.

Barclays travel pack doesn’t specifically state including cruise cover, nor does it say it’s specifically excluded - it just talks about travel in general?

Bit confused over here…..!

Possibly best to ring them and ask. Our NatWest was just as confusing but resolved by a phone call.

I'm with Natwest and Travel Insurance comes as part of the bank package and includes Cruising. I've claimed twice for minor injuries on a cruise and had no problem whatsoever

Barclays does include cruise cover - or at least did when my parents started using it. They phoned to confirm and were sent a list of T&Cs. That said we haven't checked for a number of years.

Yes, and heres why, if your policy does not include cruising, and you need to be airlifted, you might end up with a very costly bill. Always check with the provider, as usually it is an extension or small additional fee to cover cruising.

I’d recommend checking with your insurer and, even if cruise cover is included, if it’s sufficient. We last cruised in 2019 and our itinerary was changed due to the weather forecast so we missed two of the three ports we had scheduled (al5ough we visited three alternatives). We claimed missed port through LV insurance which covered almost the entire cost of the cruise. It was so simple, a phone call and the money was paid into our bank account the same day!

Barclays definitely covers cruising, I specifically checked when I took out the travel insurance pack a couple of months ago.

Thanks for confirming Ladyshopper. I didn't think it would have changed

Great, yes after some careful trawling through we found it.
I’ve heard you have to have proof to board the ship, and proof of all the covid cover etc which the travel pack has.
