Heathrow luggage problems

Tbh, I think this is an issue primarily affecting short-haul/budget routes.

I think the odds of encountering the issues the media are pouncing on at the moment for a direct flight to/from Orlando are significantly less.

Not worth switching to hand luggage only, unless we see evidence of this happening on high priority long-haul routes.

We came back last Saturday and waited no more than 5 minutes before our cases were through

You are right, I was talking about now and the pictures of hundreds of pieces of luggage just left in reclaim. I assume the owners have left in the hope that the airlines will send them on.

There were a whole load of cases when I was there that had been there for 24 hours. Probably a whole plane load

We landed at Heathrow T3 yesterday.

There were many bags in the pickup area which were from flights that were several days earlier

Our bags took an hour to come out; apparently there was a technical issue, but there were several similar announcements whilst we were waiting so I’m a little sceptical about that.

Middle of may walked through immigration, all very slick until baggage reclaim. Waited about 40 mins for the first bags to come through.
