Heathrow luggage problems
With the luggage issue at Heathrow getting no better, has anyone flying with Virgin had issues at baggage reclaim.
Really thinking about cabin bags only but we are away for 6 weeks touring both coasts and taking 3 internal flights in the US. Not bothered about hold charges in the US but am bothered about getting back and being unable to pick up hold bag especially as our coach home departure only gives us 2 hours from touchdown to coach leaving. Any help appreciated.

We came back via Heathrow (Virgin) on Weds, no issues at all (terminal 3, think it was 2 and 3 affected). The press really are jumping on anything travel related at the moment and it is making things seem much worse than they actually are. No way I’d do cabin bags only for 6 weeks!

It can vary, took 30 minutes before any bags appeared a couple of weeks ago and mine took nearly an hour. No point in having priority labels!

You are right, I was talking about now and the pictures of hundreds of pieces of luggage just left in reclaim. I assume the owners have left in the hope that the airlines will send them on.
Or is it the media showing old pictures?

I know it’s not virgin but last Wednesday I arrived an hour early with American Airlines, through passport in less than 15 mins and the bags were waiting on the belt, it’s not always the doom band gloom reported, hopefully all goes as well for everyone else.

My cousin's flew from Glasgow through Heathrow last week. They left here last Sunday morning and with delays and cancellations in London didn't get home to Atlanta till late Tuesday night.
They still haven't received their luggage. |

Like others have said, I wonder if the media is overplaying this. Week before last I went through LHR, MUN and BER, last week my wife went through STN and AMS. Both of us did experience some delays but nothing terrible. Neither of us had hold luggage but didn’t get sense there was any real problems with baggage collection. All looked pretty normal. Biggest delay for me was it took 30 min for someone to be available to move the sky bridge (on return to Heathrow).
So there are problems caused by staff shortages but hopefully you’ll be ok. With all that said I do get where you’re coming from re not putting luggage in hold. Where viable that’s what I’d do too. |
