I would agree, and also a lot to fit in! Central Park is huge and so is The Natural History Museum! I don’t know if you will fit all that in one day

With the walking it works out at around a couple hrs... we are happy for that or equally we will jump on the tube if needed... we will likely get the tube over to helps kitchen.
We won't be spending a lot of time in the museum- prob the entrance and the outside . Again with central park we've chosen just 2 areas to visit 5th avenue etc will just be passing by and taking photos etc |

Are you arriving through domestic rather than international? I’d allow a lot more time to reach Manhattan from touchdown if you’re going via international arrivals.

We are going direct from Heathrow.
More than an hour to get through ? Our 1st day is mainly free non booked places so we can swap them around to Friday or other days

We were over 4 hours at Newark last November from landing to getting to our hotel in midtown. It was Thanksgiving though.

I think you have underestimated how tired you will be and are trying to fit too much in. We went for three nights/ four days and found that doing the open top bus tour for a two day ticket was great. If course much more expensive than the subway, but you dont see anything on the subway! Things like wall st and the bull, trump tower and Carnegie hall we were happy to see just from the bus (bus you can hop on and off of course) but you get loads of info about places and buildings you may not otherwise know and will see things such as the flat iron building, Chrysler etc which are iconic New York landmarks. When you say Empire State building, do you mean to go up? We gave this a miss due to time and only did top of the rocks as we figured we wanted to be able to see the empire in the landscape and also from top of the rocks you get a better view of central park... which is HUGE it was our first trip, and I honestly felt like we were just doing a research trip for a proper visit another time. There is so much going on, its amazing. Im sure you will have a lovely time.
