cancelled a trip that would have never happened
Just a shot in the dark question here guys, we had to cancel a trip due in OCT due to unforeseen circumstances hence having to lose our deposit, however seeing now this holiday would never have been able to take place anyway due to the coniviras etc, will be entitled to a refund for our lost deposit, we have asked a few friends there opinion and they are divided saying you cancelled so no you can not now get the deposit back, whilst other`s say but you payed a deposit for a holiday that would not have been available anyway so yes you can. what you guys reckon as you will probably be more clued up than us or our friends.

October's holidays might still take place. No announcements have been made to say they won't. Since you cancelled I don't think you'll be entitled to your deposit. But that's just my opinion, not fact.

I think you would need to speak to a solicitor which would cost even more money. I know its hard to walk away from it but i wouldnt want to waste energy or stress on what ifs. I would leave it be and move on. X

Exactly my opinion as well - and after 16 years on here I'm happy to share opinions.
I haven't seen any holidays cancelled so far ahead yet. Our flights with Virgin for example were only cancelled 15 days out and I waited for that trigger to claim a refund. If you choose to cancel in advance of the holiday company cancelling I'm also sure that you'd lose your deposit. Doubt whether any travel insurance would cover you either unless you're claiming for any medical reason covered by the policy. Mick

Our July trip will probably not go ahead but we cancelled and decided to just lose our deposit. I would not expect to claim anything back at all as it was our decision to cancel before paying the balance. Just did not want the worry of claiming a big sum back.

I do not think you will be entitled to a refund. As above October holidays may be ok, even if some choose not to go.
I unfortunately changed plans not long before recent events and lost a deposit. I have not even thought about trying to claim back the deposit even though I am receiving refunds back for my other bookings cancelled due to the virus as I was due to go in two weeks time. |

Depends entirely on the terms and conditions of the policy and only the insured can check.
Some exclude "pandemic" cover completely but some will cover cancellations due to FCO advice or destinations banning incoming flights - as USA have done. Mick
