Morrisons sell one called O'so Sweet and it's a bit of a mix of crisp similar to iceberg but taste similar to Romaine

Thank you all for your suggestions. Will try them all in turn. Little gem seems number one choice so will go for that first.
On the mushrooms front - yes they seem to go slimy. My mum would say they are sweaty. So don’t know if it is the mushrooms themselves or the way we keep them (in fridge). Bolting lettuce - never heard of that. The lettuce heads do seem smaller and less green overall. Is that a sign of bolting? |

Interestingly, we have found celery to be green and bitter compared to ‘normal’

I must be the unlucky one, I bought a romaine lettuce the other day to attempt to make a caesar salad like the Disney ones you get with the pizzas and it was disgusting, so bitter, it smelt like dandelions once I had chopped it up, yuk, yuk, yuk

I’ve noticed that a lot of fresh produce has a very short shelf life.
I use skimmed milk and can often get it with just 3 or 4 days left on the use by date, useless if shopping once a week (no freezer space left) Similarly vegetables the prepacked are short dated the loose are all floppy. I agree about mushrooms, all soft and useless even whilst still in date. Edited at 01:59 PM. |
