Weve stayed at the ibis Edinburgh park- during the fringe and price wasnt bad. Next to tram so very handy. My aunties stayed at writers view-apartment close to the castle- and said it was lovely- not sure on price though sorry.

Used to always stay at the links hotel- that's just been taken over and now called the black ivy.

We had a flat in Leith a few years ago. The City Suites. We had a three bed apartment with living room and kitchen. It was pretty reasonable. It’s a bit out of town but we used the tram.

We had the Spires suites booked for August just past. One night in a two bedroom suite was £250 which was a refundable rate booked the previous Nov. We cancelled because the Tattoo was cancelled and they were really good to deal with. So no idea what they were like but they were very central (therefore no parking). We would book there again.

Both the Motel One's are lovely. We usually stay at the Princes Street one. Very comfortable, German owned and good prices.

My daughter and her friends stayed at the budget Ibis Edinburgh Park as mentioned above, they were pleased with the hotel, it was exactly what they wanted.

We have also stayed at the Edinburgh Marriott (same area as the hotel above) which is a 7min walking distance from Gateway train station. The train takes about 10/15 mins to Waverley station. We stayed here as a part of 3 in a family room, 2 large king size beds. This hotel has the added bonus of having a bar/cafe area and a smallish swimming pool and gym.

You can also catch a variety of buses outside the Marriott straight into city centre. Takes around 20 mins or less depending on time of day.

Try Edinburgh Central Travelodge, we've stayed there during the fringe and it's a perfect location and reasonably priced, It also has a hidden car park behind it if you need that!
