Travel insurance when waiting investigation
Hey everyone
Looking for some advice regarding travel insurance. Have an annual cover with cover wise and heading off to Orlando for my solo trip very soon wahey! Have found lump in my breast and have been referred to breast screening as a precaution. Am not worried at all but was hoping to get it out the way before went but waiting lists are crazy the now so likely won't be before I go. So how will this affect my insurance, will I still be covered say if I break my leg or get covid if I don't declare am waiting investigation but wouldn't be covered if was related to my lump? Any ideas what u do, just call them and hope they still cover. Never had to deal with anything like this before. Thanks in advance! |

I think you just call the insurance company to make them aware.
If your GP thought it was urgent then they have to refer you to a "2 week wait" clinic for investigation. I assume that this is still in place with covid going on. Hope it is all ok when you get seen, I went through BC over 4 years ago, can be scary waiting to be seen. Have a great trip to Orlando. We are 2 years over due a visit and just want to go back. |

Usually a condition that was not pre existing when you took out the policy would be covered. Personally I’d call them and double check and get their response in writing.

I couldn't get insurance a couple of years ago as I was waiting for test results and almost had to cancel my holiday. As soon as I had a confirmed diagnosis I was able to add as a pre existing condition and we travelled 3 days later.

Thank you. Am not overly worried tbh would have just liked to get it out of the way before I went. The nurse practioner did say would be 2 weeks but havent heard anything and heard from a friend her work mate ended up going private as wait was too long. Am sure am low risk so prob wouldnt have been put on the 2 week wait one. Am sure will be fine.
Just dont want to risk my insurance when it the USA |

Problem is that while it may be covered that would be for cancellation purposes not that they would cover it for medical reasons while abroad, depending on what is found.
Absolutely need to contact insurance company. My OH is currently going through this, with a diagnosis of BC. We are now in the preventative stage of the process which will be for the next 42 weeks. Our insurance while they will cover us to cancel will not cover us to travel. Need a specialist company and their prices are literally 20x the current cost for our cruise. Wishing you all the best. |

I had to cancel my February 2020 Orlando trip as I was being investigated for asthma, and I couldn’t get insurance for love nor money. I think you’ll find that, without a diagnosis or the all clear, you’ll be in the same position.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I have just enquired about a private screening and will also call the referral centre tmrw and see where I am on the waiting list. Might also do a call to stay sure and see what they say as been looking forward to this trip for soo long and would be gutted to cancel unless of course there actually was something that required treatment of course. |
