Census update

Well census was extended for another 4 weeks, and I am now in my final week. I could bore you all with the negative things, esp the sheer waste of money that is being paid to 100's of people that actually don't have a role to play ATM!

Yesterday I was in a small local village and got to a grim looking building, but I went in and the first door was a wee old man and I could hear a woman calling me in. It turns out he has dementia and she was a friend who keeps an eye on him, even though he has carer's but that is another story! .

She said he wouldn't be able to fill it in, so I asked if I could be of any use and she said that would be great, could I also do hers that I had posted through her door on the Thursday. We get talking and she tells me about the gentleman's day to day life and how she is always having to check up on his carer's and making sure his health is OK, she, is not without her own problems. Spent a good 40 mins and managed both forms without any hassle, she thanked me for my help and when I got into my car I became really upset! I still dont really know why I was so touched by meeting them but perhaps its the sadness of dementia that takes its toll on the person and how it affects everyone else around them. It was nice that after 8 weeks of meeting some really nice people (and dogs) and luckily not too many idiots! that I felt it was all worth while. I hopefully one day during the summer can speak with the lady again and see how he is getting on, even drop him off some treats. A pointless thread but made me appreciate that my dad didn't suffer in his later years xx

I did the census in 2021 here, and my route was mostly retired elderly people, I recall meeting so many lovely people and having such nice chats!
