Mobile Does anyone have air conditioning ?

Looking into a wall mounted split unit a/c unit just for one room.

Is there anything we should know about or consider before going ahead ?

Yes we had it fitted around 4 years ago, fantastic decision that we’ve never regretted.

Think about where your outside units are going as there are restrictions depending on the unit (they’re also not the prettiest sight) but they should talk you through that at your consultation.

Not air conditioning but we've got ceiling fans in the bedrooms and they do an excellent job of keeping us cool on hot summer nights.

Our big downstairs back room faces full west. I'm hoping if we can cool it down then the bedrooms up above will also be cooler.

We had one at our old house in the bedroom, absolutely fantastic.

In our new house we are putting multiple in.

I’m so envious of anyone who needs air conditioning in their homes. My home is freezing regardless of weather outside. In fact, in summer, it is colder in the house than outside. 🥶

I had air con fitted in my previous house - am a bit of a goldilocks when it comes to temperature, but prefer it on the cooler side.

The unit I had installed was good enough to put a single "blower" unit in the lounge and the bedroom above it - and it was the best decision I ever made in that house.

I used it a lot in summer, even though lived in northern England then it made things more bearable to me and loved it.

then 12 years ago moved to Scotland after meeting my partner, and they refuse to have it installed in our house here as "this is Scotland, it never gets that hot! " - well it does to me and if I only used it one day a year, it would be worth every penny it cost for that day!

We've got aircon, but we live in Sydney and so it's pretty much mandatory.

The only things to be aware of are

1) if you leave it running on cold when it's very humid outside, you house will be cold but also wet (because the heat exchanger doesn't do humidity well, they have a humidifier setting but unless it's needed it makes the air very very dry and uncomfortable)

2) they cost an f'ing fortune to run

3) you need direct access to an outside wall otherwise the water generation becomes a problem

I can't see why you'd need AC in the UK though...

Because albeit rare, we do still get heatwaves & have no way of dealing with it.

We have St Bernards, we’ll just 1 now, they don’t cope with heat at all so they were our primary concern in keeping the house cool.

They’re also very efficient heaters on the winter, we barely run our central heating, we use real fires & heat the bedrooms through the air con units, they’re warm within minutes & once we’re snuggled in bed we don’t want the room kept hot all night.

We have a couple of units which in heatwaves we bring up to the bedrooms, they work great. Sometimes I’ll put one in my office in the day too.
Always buy in winter off Amazon when the price of them plummets and it shoot’s up when it gets hot.
