We returned last month from a week long trip to Boston, it was incredible. There was so much to see and do, we were not bored once. We went to Cape Cod, Salem and Rockport. We did a Red Sox game and all the sights. Washington is on my list and we will also do a week there.

I don’t get Boston at all. It is probably my least favorite US city. I spent a week there about 10 years ago and we did just a day there last year on our NE trip. I know I am in the minority but I would not particularly feel the need to return.

I haven’t been to Washington but I would love to. There seems to be so many iconic sights to see!

I have been to Boston a few times, and whilst I like it and definatley like the scenery towards Maine I think we have done all we want to with Boston ,accommodation is very expensive and personally I don't think there is much left to do.
Washington is brilliant, the museums, the buildings, the heritage etc are world class and even after visiting three times I would absolutely visit again.

We've been to both. We only stayed 1 night in Boston, which wasn't enough to appreciate it properly. It was a lovely city though and I'd like to give it more of a chance.

Washington I'd go back to tomorrow if I could. We stayed 3 nights there, and it wasn't enough. There is so much to see and do there (particularly museums). Everywhere you go there is something iconic and important. One of my favourite places I've ever been to.

Dont forget that there is a great fast amtrak service between Boston and DC that stops in Penn station NY. We did NY and Boston by Amtrak but the train service is the same down to DC... well worth it.

If I could go back to either tomorrow? DC without a doubt, if only for the Smithsonian museums. But the monuments and places to visit in and out of the city easily make it the best of the two to visit.

I agree with so many comments, we absolutely loved Washington, so much to do, plus we got tours of The White House and Pentagon, which were both amazing. Boston was nice, but when we would go back to Washington tomorrow we have no desire to revisit Boston.
