Villa owner wants our credit card details
We booked a villa on the HomeAway website which were really liked the look of, with very good reviews.
Then the owners sent a form through asking for our credit card details, including the CVC, They want this to authorise but not charge a security deposit of $500. Is this normal?! Obviously we do not want to email them the form for security reasons either. |

I’ve rented villas direct from owners for the last 16 years and have never been asked for credit card details and would never supply them if I was!
I have usually either paid a security deposit of around £200 max either by bank transfer or cheque. (Some owners haven’t banked the cheque but just held it until MC have confirmed no damage) |

We rented a Dibb villa and paid a $300 security deposit which was refunded a couple of days after we returned. I wouldn’t be giving out my credit card details

I would politely ask if there’s another way as you don’t wish to give your cc details.

Should this not all be done via homeaway? Doesn't sound good to me. Was there no security deposit when you booked?

As an owner I ask for a cheque which I hold until the management co confirms the villa is fine, then I return the cheque to the guest.
I personally would never ask for cc details. julie

So all owners do this differently.
If the owner has reviews then it sounds perfectly legitimate. Some will process the payment and refund after. On some other sites, they will just charge a $50 - $150 fee for insurance that covers any accidental damage. You can book the insurance on Homeaway as well I believe. Which community did you book in? |

Home Away normally include the security deposit in the quote you get so i would check the details on your booking with HA, some US owners do ask for CC details, it is your call weather you send them.

I rented villa through Homeaway and paid the monies through them and got the receipts etc. Unfortunately had to cancel and received all my monies back via Homeaway because the rental gave full refund up to 2 months from the holiday date which was handy and 1 of the reasons I booked with them.
