We have our son a monthly budget of £160 a month from the age of 15 but from this he had to pay for his bus to school, his school dinners and all his social activities. This basically meant he was getting £10 a week pocket money but he also had to learn to budget and make sure he kept enough money for his bus etc. We still bought his clothes and paid for his phone but he did learn to budget and save for things which has served him well now he is at uni.
I think the amount given is not as important as them learning to budget with that money so be clear what that money has to cover and what you will pay for otherwise I know our son would have constantly been asking us for money for the cinema or a Nandos!

Our DGS gets £5 from his auntie, £5 from us and, I think, £10 from his parents every week.

This is a brilliant idea. Does he has a debit card or use cash?

My two are 12 and just about to turn 16. They don't have regular pocket money but this is a great idea.

We got him a basic bank account with a debit card so he would get used to paying by chip & pin, using the ATM etc. It has worked really well for him & we have just done the same for our younger son too. Makes them realise that they can't blow all their money in one go! They get paid every payday!

Yes, £ 5 a week
My daughter gets £10 a week she's 14 , we pay for her phone bus fare , schools clubs etc so it's extra for going out with friends for Costa / cinema but in return she does jobs around the house and has a debit card to manage the funds as we pay by weekly standing order. Some of her friends get £20 some no pocket money but everything paid so it's just finding the balance that works for your family .

we do a similar thing (my DD is nearly 16). She gets an allowance 1st of the month, paid into her basic debit account. I pay for school uniform and school meals, and a winter coat each year, plus half of her mobile payg sim each month. She has to budget for everything else from her allowance, including clothes/make-up/toiletries she wants, trips out with her friends, pressies she wants to buy through the year etc etc. She's pretty good at budgeting now, and honestly it saves us money over giving her some spends every time she wants to go out with her friends.

DD (just 15) gets £5 a week from us and the same from my mum and dad but we pay for everything for her including riding lessons once a week. We usually give her some money when she goes into town for food and drink there. She also has her phone contract paid for her and all her toiletries like make up etc

My son is 14, he has a paper round which pays between £40 -£50 a month plus his grandparents between them prob give him £50ish every six weeks or so. We go half with him for his big brand items if I think he needs them, he like his hair cut once a fortnight ! We pay his mobile and footy club. Kids cost a fortune lol
