Transport or Hire Car?
Looking at a fortnight in POR next summer with DW, DD12, DS9 AND DD4
When we last went we stayed offsite and found Car Hire essential. How good is the WDW Transportation, would we be better off hiring a car and driving to the parks etc? We might just have been priced out of US so I would imagine that the only trip offsite might be to outlets - but to be honest, that'll only really be if the exchange rate improves significantly. So what do folks think? Magical Express to the hotel then transportation throughout - OR - hire a car?

Cost v Convenience. Only you can really determine which is for you.
The transport is awesome, free, regular and does what it says on the tin. But, say you want to be at a Park from 8.00am until 5.00pm, head back to your Resort, change then head out for a meal at a Resort location and back to your Resort at circa 10.00pm. Nightmare! You will be waiting around for the specific bus, hoping you can get on and its not already packed, if wet you will be freezing in the air con and very late back to your room. Not for me but I do accept it can work.

first trip we were off site hired a car the whole time 21 days, used it every day
second trip 21 days on site, hired a car for middle week, no bargains to be found anywhere. next trip - planning 14 days on site, wont hire car, Uber if we need to go anywhere off site. DME, Disney busses are ace. footnote - if Disney cant move our dates back we will hire a car to go to the coast for the first 4 days, but I wouldn't hire one if I was onsite again.

we'd probably not leave site more than a couple of times - and last time round when we went to the parks we stayed til the death - worked for us!
On that though - saying that we're priced out of US doesn't mean we won't try does anyone have an idea of UBER cost from POR to Universal? DW will not be happy if she doesn't get to see HP so a 2 day park hopper might be required (even if it's only slightly cheaper than 14 pass we definitely will be spending most of our time at WDW so no point in having the 14 days anyway!)
