Flight cancelled and stuck in Amsterdam

My daughter's friend is currently stuck in Amsterdam. She was due to fly back this afternoon with Easy jet but this got delayed because of the storm. A plane then crash landed on the runway and she has now been told that she won't fly home until Sunday. She is with a friend, they are only 19 and they have no money. They have been giving a hotel room for TONIGHT ONLY but it's an hour's drive away and they are not being given any transport. Is this right? Have they got any rights at all? All advise greatly received at the poor girl is in bits.

We’ll always try to get you away as soon as we can, but if you’re delayed more than 3 hours, we’ll provide you with refreshment vouchers while you wait. If you’re delayed overnight we’ll find a hotel for you and provide transfers and make sure your meals are covered. In the unfortunate event that your flight is cancelled we’ll get you onto the next available flight or if you’d prefer we’ll give you a full refund. When the delay is our fault we’ll also pay you EC261 compensation to cover additional expenses such as car parking or ongoing travel. However if the cause is beyond our control - bad weather, Air Traffic Control strikes or an airport/airspace issue as examples - then you won’t be entitled to this additional compensation but you should check with your travel insurer to confirm they will cover these costs.

No they have no rights. The storm is "an act of God", they're lucky they have a room for tonight. Can they claim for delay on their insurance? Can your friend transfer some money to her daughters account?

Can't family pay for new flights for them? There are many flights from Amsterdam to the UK every day. Other option could be the ferry to Hull?

Thanks everyone. Not sure if she has got travel insurance but she would have to claim back money and she hasn't got any to pay out up front. She can't get hold of her parents as they are both at work.

I think it because she can't get hold of her parents so she is in limbo. It seems a bit excessive of Easy Jet to not being able to fly her home until Sunday.

it depends if they delay is deemed due to the storm or the other plane crash landing.
When I was stuck overnight in Brussels I got a hotel room, taxi voucher and dinner voucher.

However If there is a storm and lots of stranded passengers there might not a closer hotel room available.

Sky news said the run way was open so assuming it's just down to the weather .
Awful, hope she can get in touch with her mum and dad . I'd have had my phone on me and up LOUD knowing what the weather was going to be like today and knowing my dd was flying in it
