I know there's nothing I can do ...
... but I feel so bad for my DD.
She has had the first part of her GCSE Photography exam today and everything just seems to have gone wrong for her. She had problems with the printer, she had problems with the hot glue gun and then because she was getting stressed she started making mistakes. She feels that she has wasted the first 5 hours and has nothing to show for it. She has spent the last 4 hours crying on and off. I feel so sorry for her as she has put in so much work. We have tried to reassure her as much as possible and have told her she still has another 5 hours to try and put it right but I am worrying that she will go back into exam in such a negative frame of mind that she will not be able to turn things around |

I totally understand, my DD has her GCSE's this year and is so stressed. All we, and you, can do is support her and give her love. My DD does a lot of her art coursework at home and she gets so frustrated if it doesn't go exactly to plan.
But practically, try to help her by getting her to talk through how she can use the remaining 5 hours to get the best she can out of the situation. I am sure she can still do a great job of her project if she plans her work out now over the weekend and stay calm. I wish her, and you, lots of luck with it. |

Bless her. That must be so upsetting for both of you. I agree with PP, talk it through, have a plan of attack and try to make her feel as confident as she can ahead of the second part. As there was a hardware issue beyond her control (the printer failure), I wonder whether your DD could ask the school to put a covering letter in with her folder submission before posting to the examiner? I wonder whether any other students were affected by the printer problem? If so, there might be some leeway? Hope it goes well next week for her.

Yeah, everything worked out fine in the next half, thank you. She went in with several plans to try just in case things did not work out. But it all went to plan, she had her final piece after 2 hours and she came out full of confidence that she had produced the best final piece she could.
Just the other 24 exams to get through. I'm counting down the days until 20th June when they are all over. Just the wait for the results then. I know that there are quite a few other Dibbers going through this so hopefully we can help keep each other sane. |

Glad it went well for her.
Yes, lots of us going through it, so think we will all be on here for some moral supportive. My daughters first exam is French and Geography on 16th May and her last is History on 20th June. Roll on then! |

I wonder if there are any Dibb photographers that might come along and give her some advice and support.

So glad it went well for her. I know how you feel, we are going through the same in our household.
Although I am proud to say my daughter took some exams early and has had a few results. She got an A in Maths, and A*s in her Chem and Physics parts of her double Science exam so only Biology to go in May for that one, plus 2 modules of English lit resulted in As also. She is thrilled, as are we, plus eases the pressure for the summer exams. Good luck to all Dibbers children for their GCSEs too. |

Definitely worth making sure someone is aware of the technical issues that were beyond her control. When I did French A-level, I opened the literature paper to find the first section was about a book I had never read! It turned out the teacher had used the previous years' curriculum and not realised they had changed one of the set texts. I guessed the answers thinking that was all I could do about it, but we were later told that if any of us got a borderline grade over all, we would be moved up to the higher grade to make up for it.
