Stunning Scenery, wildlife and our "Wonder"ful Disney friends! - Rockies & Alaska Aug 2014 - Day 6
Friday 22nd August
We woke at 6am again. No breakfast included today and we didn't really fancy much, so had some cookies we had bought the night before. We left the hotel at 8.45 after buying 2 bears in gift shop and coming face to face with a bear! A bit closer than yesterdays encounter! The weather was a bit rainy to start, but it brightened up. It was around 8-9 degrees. We decided not to return along the Icefields Parkway, so we went down Highway 5. We wanted to see another bear, so went on a bear hunt first of all. No bears, but bin had evidence that they were around! Just outside Jasper, we saw a female elk by the side of the road. Stopped at Mount Robson and had lunch in car. At Valemount, we saw salmon in the river spawning. It was really interesting to see and you can't really appreciate the amount of the them from the photos. The temperature had now risen to 17 degrees. I did a little bit of driving which isn't my favourite thing to do in an unfamiliar country, bur hubby wanted a bit of a break. Thing I did about an hour! We saw where forest fires had been in 2003, very sad. We got to the Holiday Inn Express Kamloops about 4.30. Kamloops wasn't the nicest looking place, but it was a good base for driving to Vancouver tomorrow. We went to Denny's for Dinner. We all had "make your own burgers", which were very nice. Girls shared Oreo thick shake. Went to Walmart and Aberdeen Mall and then back to the hotel for a swim. Did you go from the Trip Index? I think I might have put the same link on the index for both days as it was OK when you went in from the other page.
It should be OK now - thank you for pointing it out. |
