I hate to admit it though but I think you are right, you won't hear that very often either
A true current limiting AC system is complicated and expensive as the hotel would have to install a system in every room and so doubt this is the case. The only form of current limiting I can see a hotel actually using is trip switches, either in a breaker panel or in the socket itself but a tripped socket wouldn't give you a red light.

The straighteners themselves also have an automatic trip switch inside of them, hence the earlier instructions. If you followed the instructions and still get a red flashing light then I'm afraid they're knackered...

I understand the logic of this but why would they work in a FL villa but not a hotel?

In an ideal world it would be good to take them back to the villa to see if they still worked.

Oh well, being right was nice if only for a while

Don't get rid of God. Send them back once you get to uk and they repair or replace them. My colleague did this with a pair that were 10 years old!

If it turns out you're wrong and I'm right then take comfort that someone with a blue Mickey head is carrying the torch for you .

A red flashing light on a set of GHDs that don't heat up is not normally a good sign... but yes, worth trying them somewhere else just in case.

:
Yes, did that, they were working in the villa, went over to RPR for an overnight stay... they didn't work... back at the villa , they worked again the conclusion is that some hair straighteners just don't like overnight stays in hotels

Just a thought - you're not using them in a shaver socket (next to a sink) are you? They can cause issues as they often have transformers in them that can't cope with higher current draws.

Barring that it's the flashing red light that confuses me - I would understand if they just didn't work at all!

I first tried them in the bathroom so yes that would have been a shaver socket, they wouldn't heat up so I tried them in a main socket , still wouldn't heat up . they then worked fine back at the villa , they are not GHD's by the way, mine are Remington.

Very strange (not you Linda , the straightener problem)

If you google it (you probably have) this seems to be a common problem with UK hair straighteners in the USA .
