So if I rent points (don't know how many I would need), how do I book the room at the chosen place? also do I put money towards it ?

To find out how many points you need, you can use the DVC calculator which you can find here: https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/dvc_points.php

You find someone with points available and agree a price. It's normally around £9 a point, but can vary. You pay the person with the points and they will book you the night at the hotel. There's nothing else to pay towards it. There is an element of trust required. You can request points on here: https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166 and also look to see if anyone has points available on here: https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=218
You'll need to ask the DVC points owner to check availability of the resort you want for the date you want before renting.
There are also professional companies that do the same sort of thing. One I've seen mentioned on here a few times is David's DVC Rentals: dvcrequest/
