Here now and need to re-fuel which type?

Hi

I have a full size chevrolet equinox suv type and forgot to ask about the fuel type.

I have never been to the gas station here as yet, can anyone confirm what it would be (petrol, diesel) although don't sound like diesel to me and how do I refuel and pay?

Thanks

The cars are usually petrol. The black pump is usually petrol and the green diesel unlike here. You go into the gas station and pay upfront and it dispensed that amount. If you over pay you go back in for your change.
Gas station will help you as they are used to us holiday makers.
The manual in glove box should confirm petrol or diesel but always been petrol for our cars

On a lot (maybe most) of modern cars there's also a sticker on the inside of the fuel 'flap' (I'd say 'cap' or 'lid' but it's not actually either) telling you which fuel is needed.

I can't remember if I saw one on our last trip in the US, though the vast majority of cars (including SUVs) are petrol.

In 40 years of renting cars in America I have never had a diesel car. It will be petrol.
The only issue I ever had was locating the fuel cover release button. Eventually I found it in the pocket at the bottom of the drivers door, the one where you put papers and water bottle etc.

Often the diesel nozzle will not fit a petrol tank.

It will be petrol. It's only built with one of two petrol engines in the USA, a 2.4 or 3.6 litre.

Fuel grade? As with all hire cars they run on the cheapest grade available at the pump.

I always forget ( and look a fool) but there has always been a second lever on the pump its self before it will dispense with the trigger!

Thanks for this. We normally go with friends who have driven in the US a lot so they always do the petrol filling up. Need to remember this when we go in August.

US's primary fuel is unleaded. So when filling up your vehicle at gas stations look for number 87 and or word UNLEADED on the pump.
If you have a *special* vehicle though do read the manual just in case.
